Disaster Preparedness

To protect guests and airport staff, ensure the rapid restoration of airport functionality, and maintain functionality as a base for disaster management, the Kansai Airport Group has established the Earthquake and Tsunami Business Continuity Plan (BCP).

This page provides information on evacuating in the event of an earthquake with a seismic intensity of 6-lower or greater on the Japanese seismic intensity scale, or a major tsunami warning, at Kobe Airport (KOBE).

1. Basic Principles

・In the event of an earthquake with a seismic intensity of 6-lower or greater at Kobe Airport, guests will be guided to an outdoor evacuation site. The building will be checked to confirm safety, and guests will be guided back inside to a designated safe area. (As a general rule, guests will remain indoors in the event of an earthquake with a seismic intensity of 5-upper or lower.)
・The airport will immediately display information on monitors and provide evacuation instructions, along with making an emergency announcement (evacuation announcement) via the loudspeakers. Additionally, evacuation guidance will be primarily provided by security staff.
・In the event of a major tsunami warning issued for the coast of the Seto Inland Sea in Hyogo Prefecture, guests will be directed to the 4th floor (Observation hall) of the passenger terminal building.

2. Emergency Announcements

Announcements such as “Caution earthquake. Caution earthquake. Please ensure your personal safety.” will be made in Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean, and will repeat.

3. In the Event of an Earthquake Early Warning…

・Do what you can to ensure your safety, and wait for the shaking to stop.
・Move away from windows and other glass, and seek shelter near pillars or walls.
・If you are in an elevator, do not panic. Wait for maintenance staff to come rescue you.
・Follow the guidance of the security staff and airport staff, and try to remain calm.

4. Examples of Information Displayed at Airports

・To evacuate to the 'outside evacuation sites,' please follow the instructions of security and airport staff, as well as the signage examples provided below:
